Went to day for a business lunch. Waitstaff was very friendly and efficient. No rush, but on the job. My dining partner wanted to eat light, so I skipped the Kobe app. :( We split some Gyowzas (very tender) and both ordered sushi. I went for the set that included 6 pieces of fresh nigiri and a roll (actually various samples.) Came with a LARGE miso soup and even larger salad with ginger dressing. Everything was very fresh, including the various fish for the nigiri. I would absolutely eat here again. Good value, and very nice atmosphere... especially for being in the middle of nowhere.

As a sashimi purist Iam gonna have to pass on this place next time. Teikoku is more of a roll house and food that is cooked..The sashimi is not worth the price and the older sushi chef makes you feel unwelcome to the point he is rude. The Decor is dark and the service is good but way overpriced... Make sure you have dinner before you eat at this place

Stopped in tonight to have dinner with the boss upon a recommendation and the need to try something different. Got a couple drinks, rolls, and entrees. Dessert as well. ATMOSPHERE: This is located on a busy dual highway where trying to navigate to the store may be difficult. The inside is very interesting, dark, and clean! Cloth napkins and heavy utensils. A bar and a sushi bar as well. Plenty of seating along with lounge type seating near the bar area and intimate dining around the rest of the place. FOOD: We ordered a couple mixed drinks first and a Chay roll, a Teikoku roll, and Philly roll. All are raw, would've been nice to have some cooked roll options. All were good, and recommended for anyone who is looking to try sushi or is a diehard sushi fan. Boss ordered the red curry chicken and I got the fried rice and vegetables add chicken. Both were good- nice portion size. Highly recommended on both. Shared the Teikoku chocolate soufflé. Very good but too small to share. SERVICE AND COST : Service is good, they are very courteous and make sure your water glasses are filled. Also have answers to menu questions. Cost totaled $88 for everything- high end but worth it in the end. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! WORTH A STOP!

$60 for two was soooo not worth it! We got the Peking duck, wings appetizer, spicy tuna roll and spider roll. Mehhhhh.... I won't be back

This is the site of our annual holiday party and what a fun time we have! The service is always attentive despite the relative madness of 100+ guests pouring into their main dining room! I have been here in two other occasions and if not for the location I would come here a lot more often! I highly recommend the Chicken satay, Pad Thai, and Dragon Roll. Admittedly this is all I have eaten from their menu, but if I venture here it's solely because I have a pad Thai or sushi craving! The restaurant is large and features a private party room for small gatherings, an outdoor patio for nicer weather, a full service bar and beautiful restrooms! This would be a great place for a date night - I recommend splitting the macadamia tart for dessert!

I've eaten here before and was quite pleased the first time so I came back. Something's changed. The service was as impeccable as before. But, the food fell short. In particular, we ordered Butter Fish which normally is so tender and moist that it melts in your mouth. It was overlooked - even burnt. Needless to say, I won't return.

My wife and I have now been to Teikoku twice. We enjoyed both of our visits thoroughly. The restaurant has somewhat of a unique layout with a few different dining settings. The restaurant features some nice options for drinks. We both selected Kirin Ichiban (draft) off the beer menu. After a little bit of homework, I learned that Ichiban means "Number One." This is a very smooth, full bodied beer with a nice flavor. This my friends, is a great beer! We ordered the lettuce wraps as our appetizer during both trips. This should inform you that they were a hit during trip one, and happy to report, proved to be an excellent choice once again. Read some great things on Yelp about the calamari salad but we did not pull the trigger this time. For dinner, my wife selected the pan seared diver sea scallops and I went with the grilled lobster. My wife raved about her scallops (her choice on both visits). The grilled lobster was very good as well. I am sure I will explore the menu a little bit deeper during our next visit. I am predicting, that my wife will most likely be locked in on the scallops once again. Our service was very good. The entire wait staff were very pleasant and upbeat. During both trips the restaurant GM, Matthew, visited our table to make certain that we were having a great experience. If you are considering a visit, you are getting a full endorsement from me.

Underwhelmed by lackluster fish quality (not bad but not great - had hamachi and sake sashimi) and too many sauces on the Salmon Tar Tar masking "meh"minced fish. Tom Kha Gai which I normally adore was cold and "gloopy" and had to be sent back. The best bite? The kiddo's chocolate fondue ($10). Expensive to pay for average meal at best. This is our 4th visit and it has gone down a bit each time. Sad - as I loved it here at first and we all enjoy the ambience.

I've passed by this place for the last 6 years and finally got the chance to try it out. My first impression of the place was that it's an Asian restaurant yet there is only 1 asian employee: the sushi chef - to be seen. I was a little skeptical at first but decided to try it anyways. We ordered the rock shrimp tempura and spring rolls for appetizers. They were delicious. For our entrees, I ordered the Godzilla roll without avocado- $17. I honestly don't know what I was thinking coz its a sushi with strawberries on top - not a good combo. Other entrees we ordered were regular tuna and salmon rolls and they were nothing special. We also ordered some sashimi, which we thought was overpriced. The service is subpar but the overall quality of the food isn't justifiable with the price. Very overpriced I must say and this is why it's a 3 star.

Poorly constructed rolls with way too much sauce toppings. The decor is awesome but that's where the awe ends. Don't waste your time unless you need nourishment to facilitate basic survival...

Teikoku is a family favorite! We have been coming here for years and I always leave happy. I always get the sashimi combination platter and the oyster appetizer. I have yet to have a bad meal here.

I love this place! Been here a few times. Everything was great! Open table for reservations got us right to a table quickly upon arrival. Fast service. Aladdin was our server and I will always ask for him when I make reservations. He was quick, recommended apps & entrees and was right on. Everything was great, delicious, hot, and fast! Best place ever!

I have mixed feelings about this place. The atmosphere was pretty pleasant but there were definitely some details that had been overlooked. We sat under a light that had a brighter bulb in it than all the other lamps around us. This light was a little unpleasant to sit under because of its daylight hued brightness and it revealed spots on the walls that needed cleaning. I know that sounds picky, but it was pretty noticeable. For dinner, we started with the tuna tartare and then had the chefs choice sushi sampler and another roll. The tartare was really excellent... It was nicely balanced, with pleasant, subtle flavors. The sushi was good but not quite worth the price. I've noticed a lot of overpriced sushi around here but I feel that charge top dollar for it should strive to make the best possible sushi. The combination in the chefs choice was so-so (but that's just personal preference) and the quality of the fish was probably a 7 out of 10, so nothing to complain about exactly. I just felt a little underwhelmed for having spent $120 for dinner and drinks for 2. The service, however was really good and our waitress was attentive but not intrusive.

The restaurant does have some interesting options, which get big brownie point. However, the price was quite high for most dishes compared to other Asian or thai restaurants. I really enjoyed Tempura fondue but other appetizers were just OK including calamari (you can order it without as salad), fresh roll and spring roll. Vegetable maki roll was actually pretty good. Drunken noodle and Basil crab fried rice were quite salty for my taste. Green curry vegetable fried rice was OK but nothing special.. Banana bread pudding was good but not worth $8.... Anyways.. it would be a good place to try different dishes with friends or coworkers on someone else's expense account but I am not sure if I would go back there for my own.. PS: Pretty slow and not very attentive service

Drive past this place daily and wish I could eat there every night ...if I could afford it. :-( I went there a few times for special dinners and once with a group from work. The food is not cheap, portions are small - but worth it for me! My wife is Japanese and also enjoys it. I usually get some sashimi and the Kobe beef everything I ever had is delicious. I also like the bar, the atmosphere, special room for a larger (louder) crowd, servers are great and obviously the chefs know what they are doing! Will return ...when I get a raise at work.

Teikoku has become me and my boyfriend's go-to place when we're hungry but can't think of a place to eat - it's just that good. As far as decor and space goes, Teikoku has it all - outdoor seating, high ceilings, a bar, seats at the sushi bar. Love it. Check out the cool ceiling fans if you ever go. So last night, four of us went out for a birthday dinner and as usual, we were not disappointed. We all started with drinks - Chimay on tap (score!), Victory Pils on tap (yes yes), and two mixed drinks. All were delicious. We decided to skip appetizers and dive straight into entrees. We ordered the sesame crusted tuna, a few rolls from the sushi menu, the diver scallops, and the tempura udon. I have zero complaints! All of the meals were fantastic - the sushi was fresh and delicately prepared; the sesame tuna was amazing - the chili soy sauce was a delicious compliment to the mashed yams; the diver scallops were cooked perfectly in a flavorful saffron cream sauce; and the tempura udon (my favorite thing) was tasty and filling. (If you decide to order the udon, ask for more noodles!) After we stuffed our faces full of delicious, my sister and her BF decided to order the crème brulee. I didn't try any, but they raved about it. Dinner was delicious, service was fantastic, and the price was right! If you're looking for fresh sushi or another fantastic Asian-inspired meal, definitely check out Teikoku! Note - If you're going on a weekend, definitely make reservations! This place gets packed.

Unkind to aging veterans. A WWII vet had just received an honor at the local memorial. It was very clear he was a WWII veteran. We went into the empty restaurant for a quick bite to eat and a celebratory drink. They only allowed us to sit on the high top counter bar stool - or the really low chairs. Neither will work for a 97 and 94 year old. They did not want us to sit in a regular chair and it became an issue with the waiter and Manager when we did so. This was an empty restaurant in the afternoon. They absolutely did not want us there. And we will never return. But giving other veterans a heads up -- there are lots of other establishments that will respectfully welcome your business. Teikoku doesn't deserve our business

Our second time here and we experienced sticker shock. If I am going to have a $300 dinner tab (there were two couples, two were not drinking), I would like to have the service experience match the bill. Our waiter, while very nice, provided an experience equivalent to a chain restaurant experience. One thing that took us by surprise was the oyster appetizer, 6 oysters, for $24. While I am not normally price conscious, we were taken back by this when the bill arrived. The food was good and creative, but a little heavy and lacked a "wow" factor for the taste buds (again based on the price of the food) I do expect a dish worthy of talking about the next day. It was good, though. Besides having to flag down the waiter when we needed something, and being served with the waiters arm going in front of my face to serve the food, and the serveware is too big for the tables (with the oversized dishes the table was over crowded), I asked for a to go box for my meal, since I hardly ate the dinner (at $33). The waiter took my plate to box and I never saw it again. Oh, and the the big fight the couple was having as the man banged on the table yelling at his wife put a damper on the end of the evening as everyone was afraid for her. This was not the fault of the restuarant but it we could have received an apology for the drama from management.

This restaurant never disappoints. I could eat here every day if they served free food. The sushi - fanominal, the drinks - spectacular, the entrees - finger likin' good! I always ask to be taken to Teikoku on special occasions to celebrate.

I finally got to check this spot out, the power was out in most towns around the area due to a storm. But these guys were open for business and we took advantage. I thought the sushi was pretty good, but the Asian chicken wings were amazing off the appetizer section. The place had no heat at the time due to power outages so hot food was a must last night. Anyways for a place that is considered both Japanese & Thai, I'll admit I was cautious, but they were very very good! Thanks guys!

Been there many times. Food is amazing. House salad croutons just melt in your mouth. I love it and will continue going back. It's pricey but you definitely get what you pay for. Location isn't great but worth it.

I'm so glad that my office is close by in Newtown Square so that I can have lunch here. Usually I order sushi to go but yesterday my co-workers treated me to a special birthday lunch at Teikoku! It was delicious and the service was great. There were 8 of us in the group and we were in an out in just under an hour. I had the avocado salad as a starter and it was a large portion for only $5. The salad is mixed greens with radish tossed lightly in ginger dressing and topped with slices of avocado. For the main dish I ordered the Chicken Red Curry entrée. It was my first time trying this dish and I liked it so much that I will def. order it again! The portion is perfect for a larger lunch. A half of chicken breast is sliced over veggies and topped with a creamy spicy curry sauce. They give you a choice of white or brown rice and serve it on the side in a bowl. I went with the brown rice and it was really good. I highly recommend this!

I've been here many times. It's very close and convenient to my house. They're always pretty busy and there always seems to be a crowd there. Even though it's not necessary, it's recommended that you call ahead and reserve a table just in case. My girlfriend and I came here one Sunday evening for dinner and we were seated at the sushi bar. We ordered some salads and sushi. The food tasted pretty fresh and we were both pretty full. The service was great and the waiter kept coming around to see how we were doing but not being too pushy and over-doing it. If you like asian foods then you'll like this place. There's a little bit of everything and you can most likely find something that you'll like and want to eat!

Had dinner with family tonight. It was my brother's first experience at the restaurant. He was anxious for an adult night out since he is a father of 3 children under the age of 3. The server Heather was amazing. She suggested just the perfect appetizers to start us off. Rock shrimp and pork dumplings are a must! I had the drunken seafood- so fresh so filling. A tad too spicy for my taste but I tasted the braised pork and it was amazing. Melted in my mouth. My brother had the Mexican roll and the 10 piece special roll. He didn't stop raving. The bartender was so warm and friendly and never skipped a beat. She was so attentive- we felt special. Can't wait to go back!! Thank you!

My husband and I dined here last night and it was a great experience! It was our first visit, but definitely not our last. The food was delicious (I recommend the lettuce wrap as an appetizer...yum!) The decor and ambience were perfect, as was the wait staff and management. Our server (Annie) was the best server I've ever had! I felt that she should know, as well as management, so I stopped the manager to let him know. He was so pleased to hear great things and said he likes to let the staff know because it boosts morale. I couldn't agree more! We told him it was our anniversary and that the experience was wonderful and he brought us over a glass of champagne each! The staff went above and beyond and I highly recommend eating here!!!!

My husband and I recently moved to the Delaware County area from New Jersey and are both sushi lovers. We have been struggling to find a great sushi place. We have definitely found a good sit-down sushi restaurant! For my birthday, my husband made a reservation here for dinner. The hosts were friendly, greeted us, and seated us immediately. The ambiance was very nice. My only disappointment was that they seated us in the side room when there seemed to be plenty of space in the main dining area. Although the side room was a bit quieter (a pro), I did feel as though we were missing out on some of the fun. We ordered two appetizers- steamed dumplings and a special dumpling with lobster. Both were good, although I think the lobster dumplings were a bit overpriced for the amount of food you got. For an entree, we ordered 2 basic rolls and a special roll, all of which were delicious. We both ordered saki martinis, which were very good. Overall, the service was great and we would definitely return for special occasions or once in a while. Next time we visit, I think I will ask to sit in the main dining area or at the sushi bar.

Manager TERRIBLY rude to 97-year old WW2 Veteran and his 95 year old wife. Manager rudely asked us to sit at the bar for happy hour - even though my grandparents (95 & 97) are both unable to get onto the high bar stools, and there were ZERO other customers in the restaurant at the time. He made it seem like we were a HUGE inconvenience. Dissing a WW2 vet and his 95 year old wife ... Needless to say I won't be back. VETERANS and anyone who supports the military - there are PLENTY of other establishments who would love to have our business, let's take it elsewhere.

We ended up coming out here after a thunderstorm caused our favorite restaurant in West Chester to lose power, and we couldn't let our sushi craving go. This place has a broad menu but we were surprised to find the sushi roll selection to be very limited. We ordered the Chay, Volcano, and shrimp tempura rolls- the Volcano tasted like it was made with canned tuna. The Chay, also made with tuna, had a very stale taste... Confusing because it seemed that such a busy place would have enough turnover to keep the food fresh. All in all, I know I will not be coming back-- there are plenty of nice places in the surrounding area that have very high quality rolls with a unique taste.

Our family of three went out to celebrate my stepson's birthday. We had the raw oyster appetizer, which came with three types of sauce. All were good, but we liked the ponzu sauce the best. We also had the Phyllo wrapped shrimp appetizer, which was excellent. I had the Tom Ka Gai (coconut milk soup) and my husband had miso soup. For dinner my husband and stepson each had sushi rolls, which they reported were delicious. I had the Pan Seared Divers Scallops, which were amazing. For dessert my stepson had the caramelized cheesecake and my husband and I each had gelato. The cheesecake was delicious. The gelatos were ok - not the best we've had, but that's not the reason a person goes to a Thai/sushi place. The service was excellent. Overall a wonderful (though very pricey!!) experience. We will definitely go again at some point.

Always a good place to stop for sushi. On numerous occasions when we stopped at the bar, drinks and food excellent, disappointed with service or lack of service of bartender. Not the case last night. We had the pleasure of meeting Mary. A true pro at her job.

Delicious japanese-thai menu with meat dishes, noodles, seafood, and sushi. We usually go for lunch since you can basically get many of the same entrees for about 1/2 the price you'd pay at dinner time. My favorite lunch entrees are the green curry vegetable fried rice, chicken red curry, and panang beef. Good beer selection.

Pretty expensive food here. The sushi rolls weren't bad, but the entrees were nothing to shout about. It may be worth it to come during happy hour to get the sushi roll discount, but everything else here is too pricey for what you get.

This beautiful restaurant really hits the spot for the lovely wife and me. She loves sushi and I don't. However I love Thai and these folks are a combination of both. This is a very beautiful space. It's a little dark and generally quieter than average. This is a nice place for a romantic dinner. Parking is a dream with lots of space. Philly folks should note that Newtown Square is seriously out in the western suburbs. The most direct route is on Route 3 and that will be about 20 miles. Other routes on more major highways can extend this to 25 miles or more. If you are choosing from the Thai menu, many appetizers are in the $10-$15 range. As other reviewers have mentioned the Kobe beef hot rock ($20) is amazing. The selection of appetizers is very large so everyone will likely be pleased. I'm a carnivore so I tried the Panang beef (Grilled Angus rib eye, assorted vegetables in a panang curry, $20). Delicious! I can't comment personally on the sushi but the lovely wife gave it two thumbs up. A visit here should be a very nice 4 star experience.

When you have an opportunity to dine at a place that combines Japanese and Thai cuisine AND you don't have to leave the suburbs to have that meal, I would call it a 'win/win'. Teikoku is a nice restaurant to have in the suburbs and gives some much needed flavor to the Delaware/Chester County area. Atmosphere - Inside Teikoku is a modern, contemporary take on Japanese style and architecture. From the ornate water features and bamboo floors, to the modern setup of its dining area, Teikoku captures the feeling of being in a Center City run restaurant. With a large seating area, and full bar for Asian tapas style appetizers while you wait, you feel at home and ready to enjoy your dining experience. Waitstaff - Waiters were dressed in clean black polos or button down shirts with black pants. Waitresses were the same, but a red sash across the waist was a unique little touch. Our waiter was very friendly, knowing both dining and beer specials inside and out. They use a tiered system of runners and waiters to bring out orders in a timely fashion. Food - We really enjoyed our appetizers in our party. The mix of fresh edamame in Sea Salt to Lobster Stuffed Dumplings, to the Chicken Satay all were fantastic. Lobster Dumplings are well worth the price and the plated dipping sauce was a nice touch as well. Chicken Satay came with a peanut style sauce and a pineapple salsa to try with the skewered meats. Really well done and flavorful. For our entrees, my counterpart ordered a sushi plate of eight pieces and one roll. Said it was above average to other places that he had dined. Not fantastic, but by no means was it a bad plate at all. I went with the Sesame Chicken stir fry, although I wished I went with the Pan Seared Chilean Sea Bass instead. Stir Fry was again good, but not the best take on it I've had. I would say that there are many choices for the bold, and next time I will go bolder with my dinner selection. Intangibles - Place sneaks up on you for parking lots, as there are small lanes to drive up to the restaurant. Be careful if driving out this way at night, saw a few deer on the side of the road and near restaurant grazing. Bar at front has specials which might be a good place to meet after work or before heading down the road to the movie theater for a night out. Those who love sushi will enjoy many different options, including specific kinds only made at Teikoku. Can be on the pricier end for dining, but worth it. Overall - Teikoku is a must try for those who enjoy Japanese food infused with Thai ingredients. The selection of items, a robust wine and beer list, and the modern accoutrements make this a place to try if you're in the area, and a place to drive to if you're not.

Loving teikoku again. Thank you for lowering the price of your spicy basil fried rice when I order it without meat. This place is fantastic. Excellent quality and while the prices are high, the portions are generous.

I had a date night, last night with my fiancé. It was our first time ever eating here. We had the Gyoza appetizer. The sauce was a little spicy but sweet with the mango flavor also in it. We had 3 Sushi Rolls-Teikuku, Spicy Tuna and another and all were delicious. We shared the Lamb dinner (which we were in love with.) Quick service and our water was always filled and empty dishes never on the table for more than a minute. We had Creme Brûlée for dessert. Overall just a great experience. We will definitely go back again.

Teikoku is a purveyor of "Asian contemporary cuisine" - their menu has a lot of Japanese and Thai items. Friends and I gathered at this fairly large restaurant for a farewell party. We didn't share most of our dishes, and the entrees themselves were hit-or-miss, being really good or really average. While entrees were iffy, their in-house drinks were consistently delicious. (Sushi was good but not worth the drive.) My dish, the green curry with vegetable fried rice ($13), was exactly that: a cognac-flavored green curry with wok stir-fried rice and vegetables. There was NOTHING ELSE in the curry, and it hardly tasted like cognac. Imagine a thick but weak pea soup - that's what I got. To be fair, they didn't lie (and the rice was good), but I expected more than a banal soup and rice, especially for the price. Not cool. The GPS we used didn't find this place accurately so keep that in mind, and check a directions web site first. Worth a try if you're in the neighborhood. Reservations recommended.

The chef has reduced the portion size of the Sushi set for lunch to the point where it's no longer a good value. Service is still good and they still charge the same but alas, greed has struck once more, sad to say..... welcome to America

Was just there on Saturday 3/23/13 with my boyfriend. First visit. Very unfriendly atmosphere of the staff .Upon our arrival, there were 3 gals standing at the reception, didn't even smile at us and they were just staring at each other before asking us-- how can I help you? It felt like they were staring at us because we had 3 heads.. We were dressed casually and had not made any reservation. It's just the look on their faces, it's like we were not welcomed there, am not sure if its because of our nationality, skin color. We felt that they were scared or uncomfortable with us being there, from the hostesses to the server.... Even the person who pours the water, seemed so unfriendly towards us. he even asked us- do you want some water? It felt insulting. We ordered seafood with risotto, and it was not good at all. It had 3 shrimps and 3 mussels on the plate a gigantic mound of risotto. Not diversified ambiance and crowd of people. Will definitely not go back there again! There are better places out there.

I've been here 3 times and have not been disappointed. But let me add that I do not enjoy fish or sushi, except for Tuna...my GF however, LOVES sushi and thoroughly enjoyed her Godzilla Roll. I had the Peruvian Steak, a sirloin cooked to perfection with a side of Peruvian sauce...its good whatever it is, i don't usually use anything on my steak except for salt\pepper it must have really tripped my trigger for me to not only try it, but keep putting it on the steak! We also got the Hot Rock Kobe Beef appetizer for 20 bucks...its 8 or so paper thin slices of delicious Kobe beef served with a Hot Rock...dip the beef in the marinade, drop on the rock for 5 seconds, turn it over and enjoy...expensive appetizer, but everyone at the table was amazed and the process of cooking at the table is kinda cool too. I mentioned I don't do fish...but everyone else at the table loved theirs...mom had the salmon, my brothers the butter fish...all promptly devoured...another in the group isn't a seafood fan and got the chicken terriyaki...the chicken breast was fantastic, and there was plenty of it! No complaints at our table of 7, they were even nice enough to clearly write on the bill "GRATUITY INCLUDED", which I really appreciate. They also have a nice little bar area that may be fun for Happy Hour, it was quite busy when we left Saturday evening. Plenty of parking in their lot, just remember all traffic must turn right out of the log...make a UTurn at delchester road to go EAST on route 3.

Hosted a business lunch with a customer - and was pleased with its format. Clean, very good service, nice layout. We sat in an exclusive room near the back- kind of interesting. I unfortunately had a sushi lunch special that had crabcake, and some kind of mayo sauce in it which ruined it, but my colleagues were all pleased with their meal.

Ok the sushi was a 5 star it is incredible and it keeps bringing me back. My seaweed salad was alright but really nothing special. I ordered the Kobe beef hot rock which was a nice entrée but it was so small. If it weren't for the sushi i would have still been hungry when i left. All in all the place was great and i will end up taking a group of friends or family there. I spent $450 on sushi between five of us... minus the sushi we did about $40 a head.

Ate dinner at Teikoku yesterday. I loved everything about it. The ambiance is unique and exciting, and the service was fast and great. We got delicious sushi to start and I had the sesame chicken with cooked broccoli and carrots, as well as white rice as an entree. It was the best sesame chicken I've ever had. It was a totally great experience and I'll definitely be going back soon!

I had my first meal here last night and I have to say that the chicken teriyaki I had was absolutely delicious! I'd heard good things about Teikoku and it lived up to the expectations. Beautiful interior, friendly staff, delicious food. My friend had sushi and pretty much licked the plate clean. That's a good sign. She loves her sushi.

Ate with a few friends for a birthday celebration. We had lovely service both at the bar while we waited and after being seated. The food was amazing and no complaints from a table of 5. Nice variety on the menu and great ambiance, I'd live to take my husband there for a date night.

This place has excellent food/ sushi. The happy hour special 4:30-6:30 is unbeatable. $3 drafts (high end drafts) and rolls are half off. All rolls are excellent, I recommend the Chay roll and the yum tom soup to get started. The overall ambiance is great along with a great choice of music throughout the place.

Here's the dish on the fish: The quality of the sushi deserves 5 stars. The service 3 stars. But they are pricey, which gets 3 stars. Two of us had one drink each, no appetizers, no dessert and only ordered enough sushi so that we were still hungry when we left -- the bill was $85 plus tip. In comparison, at one of my favorite sushi restaurants in MD: between the THREE of us, we had one drink, two appetizers and so much sushi that we could barely finish it - -and the check was $85. Perhaps you can get a better deal for lunch here.....

We don't mind driving for good food - this is about an hour away for us. Sushi was great as always, actually had an entree this time instead of all shares plates. Seared tuna was better than any high end steak house. Our only disappointment was the dessert. The crème brulee, it came out runny - barely pudding consistency.

I wanted to like this place. I really really did. I have been coming to Teikoku for a few months now about once every 2 weeks. My friend and I live pretty far away from each other and this is halfway between our houses. Happy hour is cheap and the food has been consistently good. But then. Last night. About a month ago we came for happy hour on a Friday and it was so busy we couldn't get a seat. Not really that horrific and we went somewhere else disappointed we weren't going to enjoy our sushi and sake. We decided to give happy hour another go last night. We arrived around 5:15 on a Thursday night and did not expect to have an issue getting seats. Unfortunately at no ones fault there were no seats left. The hostess told us 3 women had a table waiting for them and pointed them out and said they should be getting up soon and good luck. I appreciated her helping us find the right place to stand to ensure seating. We went to stand by the 3 women and the man directly to their right was finishing up and got up to leave. Great! One seat down, one to go. My friend took the seat and I was still standing. The bartender came over and asked what we wanted. We told her we were starving and were trying to find another seat, but for now we would just have a drink. She wasn't overly friendly but she did make our drinks pretty fast. The women never got up. Then we looked over and realized 2 women who came in about 20 minutes after us had been seated at another section of the bar. someone had brought them out extra bar stools. I was already annoyed. I was the only one standing and we had now told the hostess AND the bartender we needed another seat only to not be helped. This wouldn't be a huge deal except clearly there had always been an extra seat and it just hadn't been provided to us. I'm annoyed, but again. I'll live. THEN the following scenario took place: The 2 women who came in after us and had been given seats at another section of the bar got up. My friend said hey look! 2 empty seats. Go grab one and bring it over here so we can order! I get over to the 2 seats, I ask the lady next to them if she needed them and she said no, all you! GREAT! The bartender then comes over and says "no, no, no. You can't have those." me: "Why not?" Bartender: "Those 2 people who just walked in are getting them." Me: "Well. Um. Sorry? I've been waiting like 45 minutes for a seat why would they get the bar stools? You know I was waiting." Bartender: "Yeah. Um. Sorry. But like, They come here all the time. You can't sit here!!!" Now I know why of the other 100+ seats in the restaurant, only the bar was full. Because if it wasn't for the good prices, NO ONE would come eat here. The manager named Kevin, was O SO KIND as to apologize after I informed him of what happened. He said oh hey look, it's 6:15 (happy hour ends at 6:30). Why don't I seat you somewhere and you can enjoy happy hour prices through the end of happy hour but at a table. To which I kindly informed him that it was 15 minutes until happy hour ended, that they ruined my evening, and that I just wanted to leave. He said he was going to go and speak with the bartender and I told him I really just wanted my check so I could leave. Apparently he needed to "get the whole story" before i was allowed to pay... Because obviously it just WASN'T annoying enough. He goes over to the bartender, and the ENTIRE bar hears AND sees her explain that it wasn't her fault and that I was a F***** B****. HOW UNPROFESSIONAL CAN AN ENTIRE STAFF GET?! Honey, I might be a F***** B****, but you just lost one of the best regulars you could ever have had. Please, enjoy all 4 customers you get on a regular basis. I'm sure that their "regular" tipping will make you rich and hopefully pay for a new face. I will never be back. And Kevin, I told you to look for my yelp review. To which you replied "great. we already have no customers." case and point. and goodnight!

I work right up the road from this gem. Maybe it is because there are few decent lunch places to go, but the food here is always great. I mostly stick to their thai food, but the sushi I have shared has been decent. It is a bit pricey, but always filling and usually you leave with leftovers. Since I mostly go for lunch, the prices are a bit more manageable with Pad Thai for $10. Also, their lunch box is a great deal with Miso Soup, Salad, California Roll, Veggie Tempura, and your choice of Teriyaki all for $14. Their service is great and very quick-they are great at knowing that a lunch hour means a lunch HOUR! This is my favorite lunch outting place to visit in the newtown square area. Very relaxing and very delish. It may also be the free rock that you get at your place setting....how organic!

This place has become our "GO TO" restaurant! My husband and I try to hit a different restaurant on Saturdays but we seem to end up at Teikoku every other Sat lately. Everything we have had is magnificent! The flavors are delectable and the wait staff is so nice... and very attractive. My fav is the Teikoku roll and the Sesame Seared Tuna with Sweet Mashed Potatoes. YOU MUST GO TOO! Worth mentioning... they keep the restaurant a bit cold - so bring a cover up. Other than that a perfect choice.

We have eaten here several times with no problem. The young ladies who are at the desk as you walk in could use some training in customer relations- no personality at all. After we were seated and given water, the waitress asked if we would like anything to drink. I asked for hot green tea. She told me they didn't have any because they ran out. How does a Japanese restaurant run out of green tea? We ordered an appetizer to split, plus sushi rolls for dinner. Our friends did not order an appetizer. All the meals came out, but no appetizer. We asked the waitress, and it came out about five minutes later, not especially hot at that point. I really prefer to have my appetizer before my meal, not after. The sushi was wonderful, but I took off for the poor service and attitude at the front desk.

This would have been 5 stars because the food was great as usual but I only gave it 4 because of the slow service. It seemed like forever for our food to arrive. My favorite roll is the Teikoku--- its soo light and fresh with the cucumber, I sometimes just get this roll and nothing else. The decor is great, but it was a little hot inside the night I was there . It felt like a sauna and the decorative fans they have didn't seem like they were moving any air around. Overall a great place to get sushi in Edgemont.

Went with group of friends from UK to sample something different in the US. Had a private room which given the party size was good, some of the servers a little unsure when we asked for appetizers to share between us! But quickly resolved and delicious. I had steak with Tamarind sauce for a main - MMM! Overall a good venue

I went here last night and found the food to be delicious! The yellow fin ceviche is to die for, but it is really a one person appetizer. I ordered the sea scallops and saffron cream sauce and it was heavenly, my husband ordered the seafood paella which was delicious but very spicy. My only disappointment was our seating arrangement. We arrived around 5:15 pm when the place was practically empty yet we were seated in an awkward table next to/behind the bar. I actually had to move a ladder out of the way to sit down. The bar was fairly loud and distracting. Overall I would definitely go again but would asked to be moved to a different table if they put me there again.

My girlfriend used to work here in high school and hadn't been in years, so we decided to go. It's a bit pricey, but there are gems here. The gyoza was exceptionally fresh and delicious. We scarfed it down quickly. My green tea came as a shock. I default to it in a Japanese restaurant and excpect it to be pretty standard, but this was exceptional. It had a nuttier, sweeter taste to it than usual. It tasted more like warm green tea ice cream (which I love). I ordered two rolls. One house one I don't recall (it was good, but not exceptional). I took a risk with the other: the Mexican Roll. My girlfriend was not convinced it would be any good. Well, it was. It was amazing. The sushi chef somehow pulled off making it taste like a burrito, but retain some of it's Asian heritage in the preparation. I was astounded. It was really, really good. I could convince my girlfriend to try it, though. For a spot out in the 'burbs it has a surprisingly eclectic, unexpected menu. It's even, dare I say, a bit trendy: darkly lit for dinner, contemporary music playing, dark woods and plants abound.

Meh. I went there one night last week for a late night bite and tried the crab fried rice - which was just ok - the server said that it was spicey, but it was actually sweet and had very little kick to it. Personal preferences on spiciness or sweetness, call me crazy but I am of the belief that all ingredients in a dish should add texture or flavor to a dish. While there was some crab in the dish, whatever sauce the rice was cooked in was so strong that you couldn't really taste it...and since there really wasn't much crab, it didn't add that much texture either. In their defense, i didn't try their specialty- which was the sushi. But at the price I paid for just one entree, $17, I would expect better quality and flavor that something I probably could have whipped up in my own kitchen. The wine that I selected, $10 / glass red, was also not good - so much so that I left without finish even half of it. Ambiance was good though.

As the purveyor of my first post-pregnancy sushi and bottle of stout, it's tempting to give Teikoku five stars. The fact that it was the site of my first outing sans the little one since her auspicious debut also casts a rosy glow over my most recent visit. But let's be honest -- I'd be tempted to give five stars to any restaurant that provided me with the above-mentioned comforts. At Teikoku, the sushi, while good, is only five-star quality if you go on a Monday or Tuesday night when they have special deals on their rolls (plus $10 off bottles of wine on Mondays). And even then, the best part of the veggie roll is its $3 price tag. As for the pad thai, well...pad thai is one of those foods that I like but have no basis by which to critique. I can't really tell you what makes a good pad thai or a bad pad thai...so, with that in mind, Teikoku's pad thai seems perfectly adequate if a little overpriced. And that vegetarian entree? As Dave H. pointed out, it's laughable. A plate of rice accompanied by a tureen of green curry sauce is not an entree! Even a small handful of vegetables might save the dish...maybe... So Teikoku is really a three-star restaurant that may occasionally provide you with a five-star evening? I'll be back.

I had wanted to try this place for my birthday, and I am glad I went. I first read about the place in the local Chester County paper and thought it sounded neat. I am fascinated at the use of the strawberries, honey and nuts in a sushi roll, and it was hard only chosing a few dishes to try! I wish there would have been mroe cocktails on the menu, I chose a glass of wine, but it wasnt very memorable.

Just got back from a so-so experience at Teikoku. This was my first time there, my other half had been there once before, and we did arrive later in the evening, a Wed at 9:30 (they close at 10). We started with two Shushi rolls; the Godzilla was unique and delicious with interesting textures (shrimp tempura, avocado, strawberry). A "bread-and-butter" roll, the Spicy Yellowtail was very pedestrian. I consider this, along with the Spicy Tuna, to be the basic foundation rolls and should be an indication of others not yet tried. Unfortunately the roll was not spicy, had a slightly fishy smell, and just blah. For the main course I had the Sesame Crusted Tuna with mashed yams and a chili soy sauce. I really enjoyed the tuna and yams. The sauce was more sweet and BBQy than I expected. But the dish did make up for the Yellowtail roll and I look forward to trying other dishes. She had the Pad Thai. I can best describe it as a disaster which is a shame as we came here for this dish which she had had on a prior visit. First off, the Bean Sprouts were missing and shredded Cabbage substituted. It turns out that there is a food recall on the sprouts; information that would have been more useful before we placed our order. Now, one changed ingredient would not have been a big deal except that the crushed peanuts were missing. Odd. And it was hot, scalding hot like it had been microwaved, which could explain the lack of taste in the noodles. I expected more from a restaurant that features an Iron Chef but am willing to let this one slide owing to the late hour. I look forward to a return trip and a chance for a better experience.

As someone who is "a connoisseur" in Japanese/Sushi restaurants, and have visited HUNDREDS all over the country, I'm quite versed in the cuisine and experience. A friend of mine invited me to meet him there and raved about the cuisine and said it was one of the best places in/around Philadelphia. I, of course was up for it. I have to say, every restaurant is not perfect - there are the pros and cons to each and this applies to Teikoku. First, I have to say it had a nice ambiance to the restaurant - well decorated, and well-lit. However, the music (which was slightly louder than average) was terrible. Annoying elevator music - I was shocked to have heard it...in a restaurant. I've never heard elevator-esque music in ANY restaurant before. That has got to go. The service was great, our waitress was really knowledgeable, friendly, and definitely made the experience more worthwhile. All the staff seemed to be in a great mood with other guests at the restaurant. The menu - I have never seen so much overpriced sushi rolls/other items ... And for what you get. Again, I've been around the country and visited (too many) Japanese/Sushi restaurants in expensive/cheap markets to have an idea what it is fair for the price. The sushi roll menu was not diverse at all, despite 5-6 interesting/unique rolls. They were over-priced and small. Of course, the standard 6 pieces/roll was pretty much the norm for the 6-7 rolls we ordered. However, very small pieces....and the taste was nothing to write home about. I was really disappointed about that. There were other items on the menu which were interesting and unique, but over priced and definitely not worth the value. NOW I KNOW, this was a fine restaurant, and not a cheap hole in the wall joint - but I was still shocked at the prices for the portions, and for the item on the plate. I was really hoping for a better experience because of all the ''good'' things I heard about this restaurant. Again, if the elevator music goes, and the menu prices are re-adjusted to what is actually (and moderately) served, and the menu becomes more unique and diversified (this would be a great place if they added plenty more rolls to the menu) - this could be a great place to go. Again, great atmosphere (for the most part) and friendly staff. But until they change, I won't be visiting again.

Went here last night with my 19 month old daughter, my husband and his Mother last night for dinner. The food never disappoints. I ordered the old stand by of Pad Thai, Mark had a sushi roll special that looked really yummy, and my MIL had the butter fish, while Valen enjoyed throwing her buttered noodles all over herself and the floor. The waitstaff was super friendly as I kept apologizing about the mess and the noise. As I mentioned, the service, the food and the ambiance were all really good. I like it here! A lot!

Since leaving Chicago, I still dearly miss all our awesome sushi places, and I haven't found too many suitable replacements here yet. But I was pleasantly surprised by Teikoku, especially considering its odd location. All the sushi we've tried so far has been pretty good, although admittedly we've only been here twice. My favorite maki is the Godzilla. Its ingredient list includes strawberries, avocado, honey, and crushed macadamia nuts. Yes, I like frou frou rolls -- so shoot me. The Godzilla is a taste sensation. I don't remember everything else we've tried here, but we've had some tasty tuna and salmon as well as a few other maki. As for non-sushi, THE SWEET POTATO FRIES ARE FAMAZING. Seriously, it's like eating dessert. Goodness gracious. The sesame chicken is good too. The yam mashed potatoes are a bit much, and that's coming from a person (me) who is obsessed with yams. Teikoku's family of restaurants puts on quite a few events, and we finally attended one recently. It was an organic wine mixer, and we had a lot of fun. For $35, you got four courses of food and wine (plus we got an extra tasting of wine because they were running late), plus 10% off your bill if you stayed and ate more. They weren't stingy with the wine either, and would come back and pour more for you if you wanted it. And the food was absolutely fantastic, every course. What a deal! If it wasn't in such a weird place, I'd probably come here all the time.

We got the $25 sushi combo, which the waiter explained each fish. It was split between two people and we were ok with it but some others might feel the need to order extra rolls. We each got a desert, the chocolate soufflé and the fried ice cream with 3 sauce. The ice cream dish was amazing. The downside is this place is pricey.

All your sushi are belong to me!!!!!!!! This place has amazing creative sushi rolls and oysters on the half shell! I had 3 different kinds of oysters each with their own special sauce and it was amazing!!!! I tried the Godzilla roll which included strawberries, honey, and avocado! Adventurous and Delicious! They have an array of inventive cocktails and I think I shared something with my date called the Love Potion. It worked - we're now married*. THANK YOU TEIKOKU. *Only joking, we were married before this dinner...Teikoku will not get you married.

I live in center city & have been to most of the local sushi establishments. When a friend recommended Teikoku, I was skeptical but have to admit Teikoku is now my absolutely favorite sushi spot & is well worth the trip out to the suburbs. The Teikoku roll (although Im not sure it actually contains fish - what is in this roll anyway?), the volcano roll & the chay roll are worth trying. The gyoza and lobster dumplings are also great. Overall a surprisingly good experience.

I normally do not write reviews but these were faults that just could not be overlooked. I came here with my family for a celebratory dinner on a Friday night. The place was full but we were promptly seated for our reservation time and our drink and appetizer order was taken quickly. For three people we ordered the chef's choice sushi/sashimi and a seaweed salad. Both were great! The pieces of fish were a good size and there was a good helping of the seaweed salad. It seems like sushi is the only thing this place was able to do well! The entrees were a disaster! The birthday girl in our party ordered the lobster and it came out very overcooked! You could barely chew the meat --that is when you could get it out of the claw. We are not new to seafood and have reasonable expectations and this was just a shocking disappointment. Another in our group ordered the seafood paella which essentially a pot of rice cooked in coconut milk with 3 mussels and a piece of white fish, which wasn't even listed as the included seafood! We were willing to overlook that paella is not supposed to be cooked with coconut milk but the fact that there wasn't even any seafood in it was disappointing. I ordered the diver scallops --it wasn't my favorite combination. I though the sauce was too heavy and creamy for what is supposed to be a lighter dish. However the problem was that the scallops on the skewer were all different sizes and so were all cooked through to different points (the big ones being just barely done while the small ones completely dry). The disappointment in the group left us all with the feeling that none of us would ever be returning to this place.

My boyfriend and I went here on a Friday night. It was packed. Service was a little slow but our waitress was very accommodating and quick to our attention. The food was ok...great for suburb area, I think. We had the salmon tartar, which was very good and tasty. I would recommend it for starters. We had 3 specialty rolls and some a la carte. Pretty good and fresh, but not "off the chart" good. I've had better, especially a usual sushi eater like me become very picky with fish selection. We had warm saki for drinks...$5/carafe, which is very cheap. Pricing is fair overall. Since the restaurant was packed, it was very noisy. This place seems to be good for groups but not romantic. I would recommend this place for food and service.

I have never had a bad meal here. I have eaten here 20 plus times, always get something different and have never been disappointed! The sushi is delicious and they have some very nice and interesting rolls to pick from. Also they have huge salads the avocado one is my favorite. The peeking duck appetizer is great and big enough to be ordered as a meal. Ambiance is cool looks like a Japanese Tea House and the service is attentive.

If you don't mind the slightly pricey-menu, and are looking for a nice atmosphere for Sushi, Teikoku is great. Took my fiancee there for Valentines Day this year, and they brought us a free roll of sushi AND brought her a rose! So yeah, although its a bit more expensive than we're used to, they made up for it with excellent service. Go take your sweetheart there.

If I could give this restaurant less than 1 star, I might consider it! I will admit, the evening wasn't half bad, until my husband and I got home and had a horrible case of food poisoning! We shared the Peking Duck and the special sushi roll to start, both tasty (but one of these was the culprit for our illness later). Not exactly traditional fare, but still ok. My husband had the scallops. He said they were good. Again, i wouldn't consider it Thai or Japanese but still tasted good to him (I didn't try it). I originally ordered the seafood Risotto. The chef making my entree has either never seen an episode of Top Chef w/ Gordon Ramsey or never been taught how to make Risotto. Bottom line, it was crunchy! Risotto is not pasta. It is not supposed to be served al dente! Needless to say it was sent back and rather than wait another 20-30 minutes to receive a replacement, I ordered the seafood drunken noodles. This was the farthest thing from drunken noodles I have even had. It tasted more like cheap chinese chow fun noodles and sauce with seafood in it. Overall the meal and drinks were not terrible. It was a nice atmosphere (although a little loud for my taste). Our server was nice and no questions asked when i wanted to return my entree. My problem as I mentioned before was the HORRIBLE food poisoning that resulted from one of the two starters. When my husband called to speak with the manager this morning he was told that nothing would be done without a doctor's report stating a food born illness and "well I had both of those things for dinner last night and I'm find"....UMMMM, convenient isn't it, that you had the same thing for dinner as us....All i have to say is completely unprofessional and we will NEVER be going back to this place again. Our $150 would have been better spent on several rounds of sushi at Wegmans, better sushi and a hell of a lot more affordable. AND if i got sick (which i never have, I've no doubt that Wegmans would have issued a formal apology and a refund!). I would spend your money elsewhere. Azi in Media is just as tasty and less pricey.

Came here for lunch with some colleagues. The food looked very good. I had some sushi, which was delicious. We sat outside which was very nice. The prices seemed a little unbalanced. You could have a sushi lunch which came with a ton of stuff for a great price, or order a few rolls and pay a ton. Overall though a good place.

So, this place didn't completly satisfy my sushi craving but it dampered it quite a bit (possibly unfair, my craving is constant). I've had some damn good sushi. This place was pretty good. I wouldn't say the most awesome but between great and really great. We got a huge sashimi and roll platter for 50$ which wasn't bad. They had a nice special roll called king and queen that had spicy salmon on one side and something on the other (I was dead focused on the salmon and wouldn't even have noticed if the chef handing it to me was on fire) I judge by the shrimp tempura roll since I get it everywhere, and again...great.. but not overwhelming. Though awkward conversation is had, I would recommend sitting at the sushi bar since their preparration and presentation was what made the experience. the chef's were awesomely nice and traditional. accept plates using both hands and bow. I wouldn't drive out there solely for them but if you're meeting folks like I was from west chester, then meet here for a treat.

Took a colleague to Teikoku for a weekday business lunch and had no problems with getting a quiet seat or getting quick service, as there were only a few tables occupied for the lunch hour. From driving by their parking lot on a fairly regular basis, I'm guessing they're a lot busier on evenings and weekends. The restaurant is nicely decorated inside, quite dark and has some swanky looking little private party rooms off to the left, which I figured were for large groups or prearranged dinners. They looked coolly retro in a 60's Bond-Goes-to-Japan sort of way. Alas there were only two of us so we got an ordinary table in the corner as we wanted to talk and not watch the chefs or any of that. There is also a tiny bit of outdoor seating which I presume is for smokers since I don't know who else would want to be outside with West Chester Pike traffic zipping by fifty feet away. The food here is good although as others have stated, some things are expensive. I had the Godzilla Roll after reading all the rave reviews and it did not disappoint, although my Asian colleague shied away from it as being just too weird with strawberries on top of the tempura. There were a number of other unusual "specialty rolls" on the menu with names like King Kong and Poseidon so I will probably want to try a few more on a later visit. The size of the rolls isn't quite Japanese monster movie scale though, or maybe it is in the sense that little toy figures were used to make the giant monsters. What I mean is, the rolls are small, especially for 15 bucks. I was expecting something a little fatter for the money, but it was only slightly bigger than a normal takeout sushi California roll. I recommend at least ordering an appetizer with it or else throwing down your money for two or three rolls, especially if you plan to share with friends. I also had the Tom Ga Kai coconut soup which was more reasonably priced, was a pretty big bowl though it was advertised as a "cup" and was just a little messy to eat due to the size of the bowl. The soup and Godzilla roll were both sweeter than I normally find Japanese cuisine to be, but good nonetheless. My friend went more traditional and ordered some type of spicy salmon with vegetables and rice. The vegetables were not smothered in the sauce and indeed the whole thing looked pretty healthy. The wait staff appeared to be large lacksadaisical Pennsylvania local kids, as opposed to Asians, and that did detract a little bit from "atmosphere", but I imagine it's not that easy to find table staff over college age this far out in the burbs. Overall, a pleasant experience and I would go back again, preferably at a similar non-busy time of day. This is not a large restaurant and I can see it getting hectic as heck when all the close-together tables fill up.

Working in Newtown Square you don't get many options for lunch. We are over saturated with Italian restaurants and sandwich shops, but the one place that stands out and is an office favorite is Teikoku. The food is always great and at a reasonable price. Whether for lunch or dinner the atmosphere is perfect and the service friendly. And hey, if you can't get a way long enough to eat at the restaurant they provide a take-out service too. Looking for something quick, filling but not heavy and fits all wallet sizes Teikoku is the place to go.

Birthday dinner 2008. GF took me here to celebrate. The outside is gorgeous and the interior is cute. I had some chilled sake (very good) and a glass of riesling to accompany my yellowtail scallion roll and my scallop entree. The sushi was good, not great, and the scallops were cooked to perfection. My girlfriend's steak was overcooked. No dessert. Waitress was one of the worst I've ever had at a nicer place. Period. Her parents were there initially, as she was talking quite loudly and that fact became apparent, but I can excuse that. That's sort of a special thing. She was average to begin with but then she had a party of 8 come in right before we were served our entrees. From the time we finished our entrees until the time we saw our waitress again: 45 MINUTES. And the party of 8 was right next to us! She'd literally dote on them and then walk away without even checking in on us. I tried to flag her down a few times but she just ignored us. The temptation of a large table tip outweighed a table of two I guess. Her zero tip reflected that.

Definitely a favorite! Teikoku is located 6 minutes from my house and I am glad it is because the sushi is phenomenal. I recommend the Lobster and shrimp tempura fondue to start...that is delicious. The godzilla and/or Rainbow rolls are also very tasty. I have been coming here since it's opening. Enjoy!!!

The best sushi I've had outside of the downtown Philly. Great deals for drink and food during happy hour.

I drive past on Rte. 3 every time I visit my dad in West Chester, and just recently, my lady and I finally bucked up and dropped in for what we knew would be a pricey dinner. It's not so bad if you make peace with that before you sit down. The $50 chef's sushi combo showcased every shade of fish between white and red that we could imagine, and we threw in a Godzilla roll for good measure (very good and priced generously at $15). Those were apps. Next I moved on to their pan seared diver scallops, which were some of the meatiest I've ever tasted; my lady's filet left little to be desired as well. I enjoyed beer and sake while she ripped through four mixed drinks, ending with a delicious, coffee-enriched "Dark Side of the Moon." We ate dessert but I'd pretty much shut down by then. Did you read how much sushi we ate? An excellent meal for those of you who can afford it. I might be able to again in a few months.

Nomnomnomnomsushi. Although very pricey, still good food.

Not a bad restaurant for Newtown Square without a doubt. The whole Thai/Japanese fusion thing is a bit confusing though. I thought the whole fusion fad was over and done with a decade ago. The fish selection is extremely low. This is a place for beginners who eat mainly rolls and get full off of rice. The nigiri and gunkan comes out 1 piece per order, which I still can't understand and is a complete rip-off. So, if you enjoy being overcharged for mediocre quality fish than this is definitely the place for you! A better option would be Kooma in downtown West Chester.

Tonight was my second visit to Teikoku. I was hard craving pad Thai and it was super good the last time I went. I'll confess we went late this time, so I was only slightly irritated by the server rushing us to order. We had the Godzilla Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, Sesame Crusted Tuna - piled on top of smashed yams and the pad Thai (of course). I consider myself more or less "ruined" for sushi once I found Blue Fin in Plymouth Meeting. We decided to dip our feet in the water (pun on purpose) at this place. Godzilla was pretty tasty - but I don't consider fried shrimp tempura in a sushi roll an actual judge of overall sushi - hence the tasting of the spicy tuna roll - I knew the second it touched my lips...fishy odor, grocery store taste and texture. Bleck! My better half had the tuna entree - which was so so, I thought the yams could have been hotter. The tuna was slathered in a sauce that tasted almost like BBQ sauce. It was okay. That leaves the pad Thai - remember I had it the last time I was there and it was delish - not so much this time around. No peanuts, no sprouts, it was so hot, it was my mouth is on fire hot - not fresh out of the wok hot either, more like fresh out of the 5000 watt microwave hot! I sent it back it was so not right - to the restaurant's credit, they did comp my meal. When I asked about the sprouts the waitress told me they had been replacing the sprouts with shredded cabbage because sprouts had been recalled - well thanks Mary for telling me this when I ordered the thing!!! Both times I went the service was lackluster. I think I need a break from this one for awhile. Maybe in the meantime they will get their act together.

I agree with Kate C.'s assessment of the "green vegetable curry." It was lump of fried rice with a side of green curry sauce for $13.00! Who do they think they are kidding? I would have been more than happy to pay this amount if there were actual vegetables in the dish, aside from the miniscule minced carrots. PS - I went to lunch with a colleague, who liked her entree - which is the only reason I didn't rate Teikoku a 1!

i've had better sushi, i've had cheaper sushi. this place falls in line with it's other family restaurants like flavor. the one big draw was that they had a pretty creative list of cocktails. i'm not a desert person, and i don't usually splurge to pay someone to make me some sortof alcoholic drink. but my date and i were tempted by their after-dinner selection, and the particular drink we ordered was very good. i don't recommend this place as a regular engagement, or i'd be really raving about it. but if you're in the mood for a treat and you haven't been here in awhile, it's a safe bet.

I went here with a group of friends last night for a birthday dinner. There were 10 people in our party and we got a very cool wooden table, that looked to be a slice of a very large tree, I liked the decor of the place a lot. 3 of the people in our party had been here before and 6 had not. It was my suggestion to go here and I was one of the ones who hadn't been before. It was very good. We ordered about 12 different sushi rolls because most of the people in my party didn't like regular style sushi, that was fine with me, but I would like to go back and try the regular sushi. In any case, on to the food review. Most of the rolls we got were just as good as anywhere else in the area with a few exceptions. The Godzilla Roll (Shrimp Tempura, BBQ Eel, Avocado, Strawberry and crushed Macadamia Nuts), this was probably the most delicious out of all the rolls. A close second for me, was the Volcano Roll (California roll, spicy salmon aioli, masago, scallion and sriracha) This was also delicious. The rest of the rolls were good, but like I said, as good as everywhere else in the area. Next, I got the Crispy Calamari salad with a spicy citrus vinaigrette dressing. I got this to compare it to Buddakahn, and it was good, but not as good as Buddakahn's version. I would get this again next time. For my entree, I got the Shrimp Pad Thai, it was awesome. Very flavorful and nicely prepared. I read other reviews that said they didn't like it because of no spouts when they ordered. That wasn't the case this time. It was probably my favorite thing of the whole meal. Also great is the Spicy Basil Fried Rice (Jumbo lump crab meat, bell peppers, and basil) Very nice spice and the heat sneaks up on you, I love that. I got a Sake Flight as well, 5 different kinds for 29 bucks, well worth it.. I left it up to the waiter to select which sakes to get for me, and he did a great job, all his selections were fantastic. All in all, Teikoku is a great place to go with a date or a group of friends. I got complements for making a great choice of restaurant by all the people in the party of picky restaurant people. That says a lot. I would go back to Teikoku any time. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed. One side note, I probably wouldn't bring kids here as there really is nothing for them on the menu, unless you maybe get some kind of bland noodles for them or something. Thankfully when we went 8PM on a Saturday, there were no kids there.

Sushi here is outstanding. Fresh, well prepared and a lot of options to choose from. Appetizers were hit or miss. the fondue was great. The entrees were a different story though. Not so great, poorly prepared and just didnt hold up quality wise with the other food they had to offer. Really kinda wish they'd just go to doing all sushi,my review would certainly be higher.

We love this place. Its our favorite local restaurant. The rock shrimp appetizer is always a must! I don't think we've ever tried anything that we didn't like. The staff is hit or miss. We have had amazing service and once or twice someone who was indifferent. Aside from that the decor is nice and the food is great so definately worth a try.

First off, THIS RESTAURANT IS NOT IN PAOLI. It is on route 3 in Newtown Square...now on with the review... Is this the best sushi in Philly? No. But it is very good sushi, and definitely the best choice in the area. I've never been disappointed when eating there, which is pretty often since it's nearby and our default "I don't feel like cooking" hangout. We usually sit at the bar, which is usually pretty crowded. Everyone there is friendly and the service is good. The non-sushi menu items are also great - I particularly like the Seafood Drunken. I definitely recommend it if you're in this neck of the woods.

I have the great fortune of belonging to a dining club that is run by a member of the PA Restuarant Association (she's on the board). Every month she takes us to a new restaurant (well new to me, I'm from Texas remember?) and I get to sample some fabulous new dining experiences. Unfortunatly on this night, we went prix fixes and didn't get to make our own selections of food. Don't get me wrong, everything that was served to us was tres yummy - but I don't feel like I really got to experience the full gamut of their sushi. And let me tell you, being 1/2 Japanese, I judge a Japanese restaurant VERY strictly on their sushi. I really don't need a ton of creativity, just freshness. We had an opener with a few pieces of mostly raw sushi bites, then some veggies, then some chicken. It was all very good, but I would have selected different items personally. I REALLY need to go back and try it again so for today I'm leaving it at 3 stars until I can make a REAL visit! The staff there is VERY cool, however. They are nice, chatty, helpful and oh so young and cute!! I'll be back...

I love this place. I used to work right down the street and we'd go there for lunch a lot. They have the bento lunchbox thing and it's great. Also best sushi around that area. I have eaten sushi at several other places in the mainline/ west chester area and by far I think Teikoku is the best. A little pricey though, we only splurge on special occasions. One thing to note, the calamari salad is the absolute best thing I have ever had. The dressing is really spicy and the calamari is always tender and crunchy. I love it!

Sushi bar is the best. I consider myself a sushi guru, and theirs compares very favorably with the best, sans morimoto, lento, etc.. Always get a free veggie roll when I go.

My husband and I love their Godzilla Rolls with the sweet strawberries on top! Sooo yummy! Also, we're big fans of the crab fried rice! It can be a bit spicy sometimes so beware. They also have some very good mixed drinks that are worth trying. They can be busy on the weekends, so I suggest making a reservation.

My family LOVES Teikoku! It is our go to restaurant for good sushi/sashimi boat for my men and THE best sesame crusted tuna for me! The fish is always so fresh. The calamari salad is to die for....I would love the dressing recipe for it. The service is great, very attentive. It is my family's go to restaurant!

Just wanted to write an update and say that Teikoku's speed and service has taken a dramatic change for the better, and the quality of the food seems to be better as well. I think this is management, which was my biggest gripe, so kudos to them! Thanks! (It's still a little too expensive for the product, though, or else it would go to 4 stars)

Excellent menu with great customer service. We have been there many times and not once have we had a bad experience. We've tried the specials, sushi rolls, filet mignons and it's all been delicious. For people in the area this is a must try.
